All perfectionist say, “I”… I 🙋‍♀️

I’ve suffered from perfectionism the majority of my life and have done a lot of inner work to dismantle this paralyzing mindset. It’s always a work in progress, but I’m LOADS better (though Zac, my hubs may try to argue that statement).

If you realize it or not, this perfectionist mindset is heavily contributing to the struggle addiction we’ve been talking about all month. Addressing this is KEY to welcoming in more ease, flow, and harmony.

And if don’t think you struggle with perfectionism just hear me out. In the audio below I explain six traits of a perfectionist, and I think you’ll be surprised at what comes up.

Today we’re talking about perfectionism.

When we have our perfectionist class in my group coaching program, Adventure Awaits, it ALWAYS gets women thinking.

95% of women struggle with some level of perfectionism and even if you feel like you aren’t one, just hear me out.

I can’t even count how many times I have gone through this class with clients who thought they weren’t perfectionists, then after class realizes, “WOW! I guess I do have some perfectionist traits!”

Truth is, there are some areas (especially in the realm of health and self-care) where perfectionism is keeping you stuck.

Perfectionism is tied to control. Feeling like everything needs to be in your control or it will fall apart, right?! And that control piece has to do with a lack of trust.

A lack of trust of others.
A lack of trust in yourself.
A lack of trust with your body.
A lack of trust with life and your higher power.

Feeling like you need complete control (every detail), and feeling like you need to be sure of the outcome.
You tend to do it all on your own (Miss independent) because you know you’ll do it right.

Can you see how this contributes to the struggle mindset?

It keeps you in this place of being frantic, anxious, nervous, stressed and disconnected.

As a recovering perfectionist (#babysteps) I can tell you that being in that place the majority of my life does NOT feel good.

I used to be SOOOO perfectionistic around my body. I mean, I went under the knife because of this mindset!

If I can let go of control and release this struggle mindset, I feel like anyone can.

So let’s talk about some common (and also hidden) characteristics of a perfectionist:

  • All or nothing mindset
  • Critical eye
  • Unrealistic standards
  • Depressed by unmet goals
  • Fear of failure
  • Procrastination (this one is huge!)
  • Defensive
  • Low self-esteem

These characteristics are keeping you stuck on the couch, and reaching for the junk food when you’re really not hungry.

How? Well, let me tell you…
